“Good evening, sir,” Marcus said, his voice entirely devoid of emotion. “The owner of this property has updated the security protocols. I have a list of authorized residents and guests. May I see your identification?”
“Are you losing your mind?” Ethan yelled, his face turning an angry shade of crimson. “I am the husband!

I live here! Open the damn gate right now!”
From the passenger side, his mother leaned across the console. “Listen here, security guard, we are moving in tonight. My son owns this mansion. Open these gates immediately or you’ll be fired by morning!”

Marcus didn’t blink. He looked down at his clipboard. “I’m sorry, ma’am. The deed is held under a private trust solely owned by Sarah Jennings. My instructions are explicit. Mr. Ethan Vance is permitted to enter the property on foot to retrieve his personal clothing and essential items only. The remaining passengers are not permitted on the premises.”
The Confrontation
The chaos that erupted on my screen was cinematic. Ethan slammed the door of his SUV and marched up to the gate, shaking the iron bars. His sister got out of the back, screaming into her phone, while his mother began frantically dialing numbers.
My phone rang. It was Ethan.
I picked it up on the first ring and placed it on speakerphone, setting it down on the marble island.

“Sarah! What the hell is the meaning of this?!” he roared, his voice echoing in the empty kitchen. “Tell these rent-a-cops to open the gate! My parents are exhausted from their flight, and you are making an absolute fool out of yourself!”
“I’m not making a fool out of myself, Ethan,” I said, my voice dead calm. “I’m protecting my investment. You told me your family was moving into this mansion today, and that I wasn’t going to say a single word about it.

You were right. I didn’t say a word. I just called my lawyer.”
“You can’t do this!” he stammered, the confidence completely draining from his voice, replaced by a sudden, desperate panic. “We are married! This is illegal!”
